A present day real problem

Symptoms of Anxiety, Stress and Panic Attacks arise from the same source and is an ever-increasing part of my workload. The competitive world that we live in creates difficulties because the human body continues to evolve far slower than our intellect.  These days stress is becoming more recognized for the real problem it is. Doctors and health professionals are aware of it, they know the symptoms but find difficulty with treatments because they just don't have the time to spend with patients, no where near long enough anyway.

I despair at the amount of clients that tell me the same thing, "I went to the Doctor as I was feeling so bad and s/he told me I was stressed and gave me sedative pills and told me to try and relax. I started to take the pills but they knocked me sideways and I felt so groggy that I couldn't function properly at all so I stopped taking them". Sound familiar?

What happens then is continuing anxiety and stress resulting in low-self esteem, lack of confidence, comfort eating, inability to cope and activities that were once easy become a struggle. The ability to think clearly or logically becomes impaired. Sleep can be affected and the situation gets even worse. This can result in finding it very hard even getting out of the door to go to work let alone being motivated for good work performance . It causes problems with relationships both at work and socially.

Go on - hit the "Panic Button"

One of my recent clients was kind enough to write about her experiences:

You asked if I could write a little bit about how you helped me for your website, so here it is...
Best wishes and many thanks,
Louisa

Just a short while ago I felt that I'd failed in my career, that I was powerless, unattractive and unworthy of a lasting relationship. My life seemed to be at a standstill while those around me were moving on.

I'd been feeling down for some time when a friend recommended Neil. Within the first counselling session he'd pieced together exactly where my feelings of inadequacy had come from and why. What he said made complete sense and utterly surprised me - immediately I recognised that others might see me in a better light than I see myself.

In a remarkably short space of time my whole attitude to life has changed. Neil's taught me how to live for the moment rather than anticipate the negative things that might happen. I'm willing to risk failure and as a result I'm far more confident. My career's looking up already and I feel attractive and positive about the future. As a result of hypnosis, my attitude to food has changed entirely and I've lost weight without any effort at all - a long habit of comfort eating has vanished overnight.

Neil's advice and encouragement have been invaluable. He's warm and welcoming and put me at ease very quickly. I can't recommend his services highly enough.

Comment from a recent client - Interview nerves:

I began going for promotion over a year ago, with each interview I found that my nerves were becoming worse and worse and by the time I’d had about 8 unsuccessful interviews, within a 6 month period, I was a nervous wreck and my confidence had hit rock bottom.  People with less experience were being given promotions ahead of me, even my seniors were telling me they couldn’t understand why I wasn’t getting the jobs!

I had tried herbal remedies, breathing techniques and had spoken to my GP who said they couldn’t give me anything to settle my nerves and that interview nerves were just something we all had to go through.  I was at the end of my tether.

During my last interview I was on the verge of tears throughout it, I was having palpitations even before I went into the room, I couldn’t even take a glass of water to my mouth without it going everywhere and I couldn’t concentrate properly during the interview.  In the lead up to it, I even ended up off sick with gastritis.  In post-interview feedback, apparently I tend to hold my breath during the interview and my hands always end up round my throat!

My nerves were getting worse, so I decided to get in touch with Neil and ask him if he could help.  He was immediately very positive and put me at ease, he told me that he could help me in only two sessions.

I was extremely nervous when I arrived, but he immediately made me feel comfortable.  He spent a long time analysing and explaining why my body reacted in the way it did to interview stress and instilled positive thinking in me, even before he began the relaxation session.  In the relaxation session he encouraged my positive thinking and a feeling of relaxation that I was able to carry over to my interview day.

On the day of my next interview I was extremely calm and only became slightly nervous prior to entering the room.  I was able to take time during the interview to think calmly about the questions and answer them logically and appropriately, almost enjoying the situation, and the ultimate test  ….. I was able to take a drink of water without a single shake of my hand!

I got the job!  They actually told me I was the best out of all 13 candidates, I couldn’t believe it.  Thank you so much Neil, I couldn’t have done it without your help and I’ll definitely be back before my next interview for a “top-up”, but maybe not for a year or so, I’m still ready for a rest from interviews!

Comment from a recent client- Blushing:

Hi Neil

I have a problem with blushing and this is impacting my professional life and studies.  I am finding that it is becoming more and more of a problem - and of course, the more I focus on it, the worse it gets!!  The problem occurs in 'expected' situations (i.e. when I am doing presentations) but I also find that I blush intensely when someone challenges or shouts at me (i.e. in a debate or argument).   I am currently studying to work in the Healthcare sector and I will have to deal with people's negative emotions and I really think blushing will damage my ability to come across as a confident professional I also have to do a significant amount of presentations, both formal and informal, and the thought of blushing makes me cringe! I think I'm more anxious about everyone see me blush that I am about doing the actual presentation.

Many thanks
Joanne

Dear Neil

I just wanted to drop you a note to say a very big thank you for the help you gave me with regard to blushing.  I was absolutely astounded by how quickly you were able to help me deal with this problem and empower me to become a more confident person.  I previously dreaded presentations because I used to focus on my blushing - but you helped me overcome this.  In fact, I've just found out that I passed my presentation exams for college with "A Grades" for confident performance!  I truly believe you helped me achieve this so THANK YOU!!

Kind regards
Joanne

Comment from a recent client - Anxiety:

I booked an appointment with Neil after the realisation that something in my life needed to change. I was becoming increasingly anxious about certain social situations, with my anxiety manifesting itself in the form of shaky hands when nervous, under pressure, or if I felt someone was 'judging' me. It got to the point where I dreaded going into my part-time waitressing job, as I couldn't serve a cup of coffee to a customer without my hands trembling. And I completely dreaded any kind of social situation that made me nervous as the shakes would sometimes be apparent to other people.

Neil was lovely, and put me completely at ease. After one session my anxiety had been significantly reduced and to my surprise I managed to serve coffee at work the next day with a completely steady hand (something I never would have been able to do before!)

Neil has taught me the power of positive thought and creative visualisation. I now live in the 'now' instead of dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. Thank you Neil - I am looking forward to having a happy, calm and confident life.

Comment from a recent client:

Thank you Neil, for taking time to explain to me in some very simple and enlightened terms, how I can best take control of the future direction of my life. I now feel I have a methodology to work with on a daily basis that will support me to achieve what I want out of my life. This methodology definitely went beyond your hypnotherapy and set real context and understanding for me. Your work was great value for money and I would recommend anyone to spend time with you if they are interested in confronting anything that is negative in their lives. You have taught me that we are only limited by our beliefs. Once those beliefs become positive and are continually reinforced life can only proceed as we wish.
